Around
1776, Revolutionary War Hero Francis Marion crossed
Big Cypress Swamp before the skirmish with British
troops at black Mingo Creek in Andrews, South Carolina.
In
the 1800's, there was a grist Mill located in the Southwest
corner of the lake.
For
many generations this lake was a private fishing and camping
retreat for the W.A. Martin family.
This
parcel of land was once part of hundreds of acres owned
and farmed by W.A. Martin and then passed to his son Bobby
Long Martin.
This
property then passed to his daughter Lou Jane Martin Chestnut.
She and her husband, Tim Chestnut, are now operating the
community and fishing retreat.
The
Chestnuts have enjoyed many happy years here as every season
has something new and exciting to offer the nature lover.
